Making AR Work on Tattoos

Hi,

Though this might be a random question, but this is something which I have encountered.

I'm trying to create an AR App for Tattoos.

The idea is that when anyone scans a tattoo, it should pull up an animation.

The solution - AR Markers and AR Camera - Works great on the source of the Tattoo designs.

The problem - When these tattoos are applied on skin, they do not work as the tattoo design gets varied with the skin.

How can you optimise the marker tracking to make sure it still picks up the image.

Cheers!
Neel

Re: Making AR Work on Tattoos

hello,

the best is to register the marker from a tattoo already applied on skin.
or maybe try removing some parts of the tatoo picture with photoshop and keep only easy features to detect. You can also try to play with the contrasts.

Re: Making AR Work on Tattoos

Thanks arkeon.

I've currently set the max detected features to 1500.

Here's how the tracker is (flipped) - https://imgur.com/a/9beAsPD

Here's how it looks on the hand - https://imgur.com/a/KUd2Wl9

Please suggest what kind of changes should I make to the image?

Re: Making AR Work on Tattoos

on the skin the contrasts seems lower. try to train the picture with less contrast

Re: Making AR Work on Tattoos

Thanks arkeon... Would you think increasing the max detected features to more than 1500 should help?

Re: Making AR Work on Tattoos

I don't think so, 200 features is enough
the goal to such marker detection is to find small differences.

what you can try is to train a marker image with only black lines of the drawing. maybe it will be more accurate on skin

Hi arkeon,

I'm trying to train the marker with a b/w image but it shows an error.

Error - https://imgur.com/a/hgw8KT8

Nothing in the log file as well.

Re: Making AR Work on Tattoos

I think it don't like the image format, it must be RGB channels? also I didn't mean greyscale picture, but more something like the coloring fish demo marker

Re: Making AR Work on Tattoos

it should work easier with markers like aruco or QRcodes, or more simple shapes with high contrast.

Re: Making AR Work on Tattoos

Hey arkeon,

I think I figured out what the issue is.

The app is running in portrait mode which is actually stretching the camera which in turn distorts the image.

Is there a way to maintain the resolution of the camera in the portrait mode?

Re: Making AR Work on Tattoos

Hello,

this is corrected in the next OS3D version, the picture ratio you see on screen do not affect the detection.
